Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that plans change and life gets in the way sometimes, but as a courtesy to our clients and our instructors, please cancel all reservations according to the following policy.
- All Group Classes: 12 hours before class start time
- Private and Semi-Private Sessions: 12 hours before session start time
Failure to provide this notice will result in a Late Cancel and the loss of one class or session. If you do not have a series on file, you will be charged for a single session. We appreciate as much notice as possible to allow other clients a chance to fill your space in the event of a cancellation. If you are not able to make it to a reserved class or session, please cancel by email or online prior to the scheduled start time. This will help us fill the spot if another client is on a wait-list. In order to make it fair for others, we will be implementing a “no show” fee of $5 for anyone who does not show up and did not cancel prior to the class/session start time.
If you are on the wait list, getting into the class is dependent upon someone else who is currently signed up canceling a reservation. We encourage you to put yourself on the wait list for any class you’d like to attend that’s full. People cancel classes every day and there’s a good chance you’ll get in.
When a spot opens, an email is sent to you asking you to confirm or cancel your reservation. If that email is sent any day PRIOR to the day of class, we expect you to be waiting for an email and managing your reservation options. If it is sent the SAME DAY as your class we may also try to call you to confirm your reservation. Note: If you are not opted in to receive emails and you are on a wait list it is your responsibility to monitor your class schedule either through your online account or the Bookee app.
If you CANNOT attend the class please cancel as soon as possible, either online or by replying to the reservation email. Note: When on the wait list, you are not guaranteed a spot in class until confirming the reservation.
Welcome to A Touch of Class! Trying something new can be a bit scary, but we’ll do our best to make sure you feel comfortable and energized for your workout.
Here are a few tips:
- Get there early! For your first visit, please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled workout. We will show you the ins and outs of the studio and get you set up for your first class/session.
- Schedule a one-on-one session! Although not required, a private session can make you feel more at ease. Not only does it allow you to become familiar with the equipment, exercises, and teacher but it allows us to get to know your body and how it works before we see you in a group setting. The more information we have, the better we will be able to create modifications and variations to make sure you have the best possible experience.
- Talk to us! Advise the teacher of anything going on that day that may impact your workout. This can be anything from a full-blown injury to minor aches and pains, or maybe you just didn’t sleep enough last night!
- Ask questions! Be sure to take a look at the other FAQs for any questions you may have and if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, feel free to reach out.
Living in Mill Basin, New York we understand there are times that you may be delayed. Please text, call or email the studio if you know you’re going to be late so that we may notify your instructor and hold your spot.
We recommend athletic clothing (without zippers or snaps) that is comfortable to move in, that allows for movement and support, you won’t mind getting sweaty, and provides enough coverage to make you feel comfortable while performing exercises. Instructors need to see your posture and body position, so loose-fitting clothes are not recommended. You do not need sneakers to practice Pilates, however grip socks are required. A variety of grip socks may be purchased at the studio in the future or you are welcome to bring your own. In our efforts to provide you with a chemical-free environment to workout in, we ask that you please leave perfumes and scented body products at home.
New to working out? You don’t have to be flexible or “in-shape” to start Pilates. We all started from zero, and we’d love to help you work on your flexibility, strength, and desired fitness level. We offer modifications to many exercises and encourage you to move at your own pace. Be sure to let us know about any injuries, changes in your body, or special conditions PRIOR to your workout. Pilates is an excellent rehabilitative exercise program and we are here to help, and the only way we can assist you with modifications during your session is if we are aware of your personal history. We can accommodate many types of injuries or concerns as long as you have been cleared by your physician for regular exercise. We are more than happy to coordinate with your provider (doctor, physical therapist, massage therapist, etc.) to make sure we work together to provide you with a comprehensive program.
Everybody is different! It depends on your fitness level and desired results. The more you workout and the better shape you get in, the faster your recovery will be. The more you work out and the more consistent you are, the better results you will get. We generally recommend attending classes/sessions 2-3 times per week. In no time you should feel taller and leaner, have increased body awareness, increased tone in problem areas, and a general increase in energy.
We know that most of us have a busy schedule with work, family, and travel, so we offer regular savings in the form of series to accommodate life’s unpredictability. Regular AToC series, those that offer a discount on purchasing multiples, do not have an expiration date. By default, these series will expire in our system after one year, but if this happens just alert the desk staff and we can make adjustments. Please note, in the case that the series has expired and the rate when purchased is no longer offered, you will be issued a credit to use towards any current series. If you choose to take advantage of one of our recurring series or a limited-time special offer, then there will be a defined expiration date dependent on the terms of the offer.
As a courtesy to other clients, please silence your phone before you walk into the studio. If you need to make a call or text, please step outside the building so that you do not disturb sessions in progress.
Safety Protocols
The studio door is kept locked. If you arrive early, you may wait outside or in your car. Your trainer will be available to grant entry at your scheduled appointment or class time. All scheduling, payments, and any other studio management needs are handled online. We do accept Zelle, and cash for transactions, and all inquiries or scheduling requests should be made in an email.
Grip socks are required for all sessions and classes. They can be purchased at the studio, or at many other online retailers. Grip socks should be put on after you stow your personal items, and before your workout.
Due to limited space, if you need to cancel for any reason, we request that you do so at least 12 hours before a scheduled class or session. For classes, in order to make it fair for others, we have implemented a “no show” fee of $5 for anyone who does not show up and did not cancel prior to the class start time.
If fully vaccinated, masks are optional. We understand that some of you will prefer to keep your mask on while in the studio, so we ask that everyone please continue to be respectful of one another while moving about the space.
Please be on time. All scheduled sessions, regardless of the time they begin, must finish at their originally scheduled time. In an effort to keep all of our instructors and clients safe, any client showing visible signs of illness (e.g. runny nose, persistent sneezing and/or cough, etc.) may be asked to leave class that day.
Please bring only essential belongings into the studio. All personal items must be stowed away and out of sight while in class. Aside from water bottles, please no outside food or beverages.
We have one restroom with ample changing space available for client use.
We are continuing to use hospital-grade disinfectant to clean the studio as well as updated protocols to align with the DOH and CDC guidelines.
We have a minimum of 5-10 minutes between each class to allow for sanitization, and exiting prior to the next group entering the studio. Although trainers and staff will be keeping the studio clean, we kindly ask that you assist by wiping down any equipment that was used by you during your class or session.
Thank you for being patient with us as we navigate through this process. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we are taking to keep you safe in our studio. Please reach out to us at atouchofclasspilates@gmail.com.
